Unniyappam or Sweet Appe

Unniyappam recipe... Kerala sweet recipe


Ingredients:

Raw rice - 1 cup

Banana - riped - 2 nos. 

Jaggery powder - 3/4 cup

Cardamom powder 1/4 tsp

Soda 1/4 tsp

Sesame seeds 1 tsp

Coconut pieces (small) 4 tbsp

1/2 tsp ginger powder

Salt a pinch

Ghee - 1 tbsp

Oil for frying the appe (coconut oil or ghee or refined oil) 



Method:

Soak the rice for 3-4 hours. 

Later grind the rice, jaggery, cardamom and banana to a fine coarse batter with half cup water. The batter should be like idli batter. Mix the sesame seeds, salt, ginger powder and soda. Fry the coconut in ghee and add this to the batter and mix it well. 

Heat the appe pan with the oil/ghee. Then drop the batter and fry on both sides on low flame. 

The appes are ready to serve.
