Akki rotti is one of the favorite breakfast of the Kannadigas. It is also eaten as lunch with chicken or mutton curry.
This is a very tasty snack as all ages including children can enjoy.
Ingredients:
Rice Flour - 1 cup
Onion - 1 big (finely chopped)
Green chillies - 2/3 (finely chopped)
Coriander leaves - 1/2 tbsp (finely chopped)
Cummin sees (jeera) - 1 tsp
Grated carrot - 1 tbsp
Grated coconut - 1tbsp
Salt according to taste
Water to mix the dough
Oil
Method:
Mix all the ingredients except oil in a shallow dish to make a smooth, semi solid dough. Leave it aside for 5-10 mins.
Take a thick polythene cover (milk packet or oil packet) or butter paper and spread little oil on it. Wet your hands and take a handful of the dough and start patting to make a round roti with your hands, make a flat roti using water as and when required to tap with your fingers so that the dough doesn't stick to your hand.
Heat a Tawa and spread little oil and put the roti on the tawa and cook on a medium flame by closing a lid. After 5 mins, when you know that the other side is cooked (the upper part should be dry and not wet), flip over the rotti and cook for another 5 mins.
Repeat with the remaining dough and serve hot with a scoop of butter and coconut or mint chutney.
Note: You can also directly pat the rotti on the tawa before placing it on the flame and cook accordingly.
